The Genomics Resources Core Facility provides state of the art services in gene expression profiling and high through-put genomics technologies to researchers internally and externally. The core services include experimental design, sample manipulation, instrumentation, data analysis, interpretation, and validation. The core facility consists of Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer, Nanodrop, Taqman 7900HT real-time PCR machine, Affymetrix GeneChip platform, GenePix 4000B array reader, Covaris S2 High Performance Ultrasonicator, and high throughput next-generation sequencing (NGS) platforms which are Illumina HiSeq1000, and MiSeq, and Ion Torrent Personal Genome Machine (PGM). The goal of the GRCF is to provide the high quality services at low costs to the entire research community.

SAMPLE REQUIREMENTS: a) Solid Tissue Only – include biopsy, currettings, tissue fragments, mass or excision. b) Place samples into fixative as soon as possible unless for specialized histology and ancillary studies (i.e. Lymphoma protocol) that require sending fresh tissue for examination
Place into clearly labelled specimen container: Fresh Tissue • Place on saline moistened non-stick telfa pad • Transport as soon as possible on ice packs (cool not frozen). Bone Marrow • Place into B+ fixative as soon as possible Other Tissues • Place into 10% neutral buffered formalin as soon as possible
c) Label sample container with patient’s name/demographics (2 identifiers minimum) and specimen site
SPECIMEN TRANSPORT: a) Regular laboratory hours at BCCA 08:00-16:30, Monday to Friday and closed on statutory holidays. Samples arriving late in the day may possibly be held until the following work day for processing b) Label shipping container clearly and send to: Cancer Lab, Hospital, City, State
